Crawford Mfg. was founded on one simple principle: higher quality products. J.D. Miller, a member of Ohio’s Amish community, worked as a machine mechanic at a local sawmill before opening his own small-engine repair shop. After experiencing frustration with the inferior quality of after-market springs, he decided to make his own. He went on to sell those springs and other after-market products to various shops in the region. In time the small-engine repair shop was transformed into a fully dedicated manufacturing company. The business expanded through the 70s, 80s, and 90s, as J.D. added wire forming, stamping and assembly to Crawford’s capabilities. Crawford weathered the difficult economic times in the 2000s and in late 2010, J.D.’s son Dan and daughter-in-law Martha became the new owners, allowing him to retire. J.D continues to pass on his wealth of knowledge and experience as a consultant for Crawford. Dan, Martha and daughter Mary are part of the Crawford team that continues to produce excellent products through ingenuity, hard work, dedication, and experience.
